Key facts for Scotland
What to know before your quote
- Solar panels and batteries fitted in homes in Great Britain currently carry 0% VAT until 31 March 2027.
- Smart Export Guarantee tariffs pay you for electricity you send to the grid, and require an MCS-certified installation.
- Systems up to 3.68 kW per phase usually connect under the G98 process; larger systems need G99 approval first.
- Long summer daylight in the north east means panels keep generating well into the evening from May to July.
Common questions
What happens after I send the quote form?
A member of our team contacts you to talk through your home and electricity use, then arranges a survey with our MCS-certified installation partner. After the survey you receive a written quote showing the system size, equipment and total cost. There is no obligation to go ahead, and nothing is booked until you agree.
What information do I need for an accurate solar quote?
It helps to have a recent electricity bill showing your annual usage in kWh, your postcode and a rough idea of which way your roof faces. Let us know about any shading from trees or nearby buildings, and whether you want a battery. The survey confirms the remaining details on site.
Do I need permission from the network operator to install solar?
In the north of Scotland the network operator is SSEN. Most home systems can be connected under the G98 process, where the installer notifies SSEN after installation. Larger systems, or those with bigger inverters or batteries, need G99 approval before work starts. Your installation partner handles this paperwork for you.
Is VAT charged on solar panels and batteries?
Solar panels and batteries installed in homes in Great Britain currently have 0% VAT, a relief that runs until 31 March 2027. The rate applies to the equipment and installation when fitted together in a residential property. Your written quote shows the VAT treatment clearly, so you can see the total cost.
